This is my first Brother printer and I am highly impressed. We’re really going to replace an Epson Artisan WiFi printer that we like, due to the additional features this printer offers.

Set-up of the printer was a breeze. The ink cartridge system is the best I’ve seen. All of the ink is stored right at the front, right-hand size of the printer. You don’t have to go fumbling around to the inside of the printer to install them, which is fantastic. The ink has separate cartridges for each color (cyan, yellow, magenta and black). This is similar to our Canon (which has 1 additional large black cartridge) and Epson printers (though the Epson also has 3 additional cartridges – a “light” translation of each color). I like that the Brother MFC-6890cdw only takes 4 cartridges instead of 5 or 7. I feel like I’m always replacing ink on those other printers. (i.e. Light Cyan is low!!)

Our computers picked up the WiFi straight away and we are able to wirelessly print from both my MacBook Pro laptop and my husband’s Dell desktop, which is on a different amount of the house.

This printer serves a copier and scanner, but also a Fax machine, which is fantastic. The footprint of the printer is much larger than our Epson Artisan, and a small larger than the Canon All-in-One. But, this printer has more features than the Epson or the Canon, which helps justify the additional size.

For one, the printer can print 11 x 17 size paper. This is unusual for home printers and gives it a more useful, business aspect. But also, you can print large photo murals and find other creative uses for this large paper.

The printer has a large 4″ touchscreen and simple surgical procedure for photocopying and scanning. The ink does not “oversaturate” the paper and make it soggy, as we’ve seen on other printers we have owned. It holds probably 300-350 sheets of paper, which is a certain bonus.

If you have the interval for a large printer in your home or home office, you won’t be disappointed with the features and performance of this printer.

    First, shut off your Firewall.

Second, press MENU on the printer cover and brilliant NETWORK then WLAN.

These two steps will cut through the confusion and allow your computer to recognize the printer on a wireless system.

I was excited to receive this new Brother printer. I had earlier had a Brother and for the 4 years that I had it, it worked really well. We had got a Canon MX850 about a year ago and were having a few problems with it so when we got the chance to review this I jumped at it.

The Brother MFC-6890cdw is a huge printer, in terms of its size, but you get quite a few features that comes along with it. You can Fax, Copy, Print and Scan and it can hold a large quantity of paper. Unevenly 350 pages in the two trays provided. It can also print up to 11×17 which is rarely establish.

Printing is relatively quick and it doesn’t place that soggy ink paper that can usually happen when printing in color. It took me about 1 minute to print a 6 page word document. I must note that it also has an auto duplex function which is perfect for those who like to conserve paper or for kids homework projects.

Comparing my Canon to the Brother in terms of picture printing quality, I’d have to give my Canon 5 stars and the Brother 4. Although the picture quality is fantastic, the colors look a small bit washed out and it took nearly twice as long to print. This is from printing a 4×6 picture of my son’s graduation.

The wireless networking was a small hard to set up as the instructions aren’t too clear but my husband finally figured it out and once it was done it was a breeze. The huge 4″ LCD touchscreen was a plus in this department. Connecting my laptop to the Brother was generally simple but printing to it took a small bit longer compared to the printing from the main computer connected via a USB connection.

I have compared the price for both the Canon and the Brother Printer ink and they’re both comparably similar in terms of price. The Brother though uses a 4 ink cartridge system while the Canon uses 5. According Brother you can use either the standard or high yield cartridges and you only need to change the one that wants to be replaced instead of like the other companies that make you change them all at once.

My only con with this printer is the size and the price but besides that I’d have to give this printer 5 stars because of what it offers and the quality of the printing.

I am very pleased with this multi-function machine. It was simple to set up, it’s silent, and I am quite satisfied with copy/print quality. It performs as advertised and I like everything about this device, would recommend it to others.

All the features I need in a relatively compact ujit. Ink is simple to change through a door in the front without having ot poke around in the machine. Handles lots of paper sizes. Comes with full size cartridges unlike some printers which ship with a sample size. I did have some distress figuring out the wireless set up.

It has all the features of the $8,000 machine I was using before.

I’ve only had it for a few weeks so I don’t know about long term reliability or economy.

This all-in-one works fantastic for duplicating or making large format ID. Super simple wireless set-up, simple to use, really silent. Print quality is so-so, and background to higher quality print levels makes a relatively slow printer even slower… but even so, I like my Brother MFC-6890 very much.

I read and hunted down a MFC machine that would give me gorgeous, quality color photos, clean, crisp text, simple to operate, fantastic scanner and fax. This machine is near perfect. She’s a tad slow, but it’s worth the wait. Buy yourself a CISS system for about 25.00 on ebay and you can print 8×10 color glossies all day long.

With my current setup up it is runnning me the equivilent of 1.50-1.75 per refill of any agreed color. Dirt low-cost.

Oh yes, a fantastic color photocopier as well and duplexer. There are lots of specials on the net: a low at one top of 229 at N**EGG. Staples runs specials on this on and off, I paid 250.

Since I’ve owned a MFC-4450 for 10 years, experiencing minor maintenance issues,I chose to stay with a company that observably produces a durable, long term piece of office machinery. The reason for an upgrade was beyond my control. My new computer, with Windows Vista, is not supporting the ancient MFC-4450.I’m still using the ancient printer with my other Win 2000 operating systems.

I use the internal WiFi feature exclusively from all computers(no additional external router required, two walls between points).Data transmission speed is more than acceptable.I haven’t tried the photo print feature.Really didn’t buy it for that purpose.

I just bought this 2 months ago based on the reviews on Amazon.com, and its been a perfect buy. The setup is like 15 pages, but I got through it in like 15 min. I entered my WEP key also, and can print wirelessly to it from any of my 8 computers in my house.

I have no regrets about this. Prints fantastic, and has been rock solid ever since I bought it (I place it on 24/7).

Ive had many HP printers and Lexmark. This is my first Brother printer and I got to say its the best home printer Ive ever had. And Im a network engineer / IT geek. Id like to top out that the ability to print in larger print sizes, above 8 1/2 x 14 is a excellent feature when printing and when scanning large DOCs (diplomas/certificates) on glass. Large printer not for everyone, but I specifically bought it for the large glass to scann large stuff (and print larger stuff, ie. marketing notes). Print/scan quality is fantastic, software is really simple to use, feader doesnt get stuck like otHer Printers Ive had. Lots of plug in storage space device options, the touch cover is nice, etc. If you can deal with the larger design, its a fantastic printer and worth the price.
